Enthusiastic Owner Operator
I've been cruising The Hauraki Gulf and the coast northwards for 30 years. With our children we were lucky to be able stay out there for more than a month at a time. Our yachts weren't a patch on CharterLink's luxurious cruisers but we didn't know what we were missing and loved every rustic minute of our holidays! It's an amazing place to sail and I love its unspoilt beauty and extraordinary number and variety of bays and anchorages. We still find places we haven't been before!
Trust
When the opportunity own and run CharterLink arose in 2000 I leapt at the chance to work with boats and share the Hauraki Gulf with guests from all over the world. It's been a lot more fun than my time in corporate senior management! It's also been a privilege to be trusted by so many guests, even before we meet. (Especially after hearing your experiences with badly organised and even dishonest charter operators elsewhere.) I realise it's quite something to entrust your advance payment to an operation you don't know in New Zealand, possibly thousands of kilometers from your home. I value your trust in us. We won't let you down.

"What could possibly go wrong?!" It doesn't actually take much imagination to answer that!!
The charter company took our deposit and disappeared...
The charter company double-booked the boat
The boat wasn't as described when we arrived...
The boat was dirty/worn out
The safety equipment was out of date
The boat broke down
and so on..
If you're a sailor you'll know that boats can be a bit 'ornery' - that the sun and salt-water environment takes its toll on equipment. It takes a continuous programme of preventative maintenance to keep everything running correctly. And even then Murphy's Law may defeat you. CharterLink isn't immune despite our continuous checking and inspection and Safe Ship Management. But we do manage a high level of reliability in our systems and vessels and we can usually rectify minor failures quite quickly. So we don't claim to be perfect but we certainly focus on providing you with a hassle-free holiday. People
Other than 'messing about in boats' the great joy in running CharterLink is meeting so many wonderful and interesting people who come to sail with us. We have our love of sailing in common but really each guest I meet is quite unique in background, experience and world-view. If I have any regrets about CharterLink it's that I'd choose almost all our guests as friends but there just isn't time. So I make do with glimpses of who you are while we spend time familiarising you with the boat and making sure you have what you need. Perhaps you feel the same way.
